Housing

The need for new and more diverse forms of housing in Canada, and the Province of Ontario, is abundantly clear. In recent times, while the demand for housing has continued to increase, housing delivery and supply rates have not; contributing to what many now describe as a ‘housing crisis’.

Whether you are a property owner, developer, landlord, tenant or prospective owner; the Province of Ontario has published various information and resources on its website to further your understanding on housing-related matters. Housing in Ontario.

For many years, volume housebuilders have stated their preference to build larger 4-5-bedroom single detached family homes on the periphery of larger Towns and Cities.

While proponents have cited the ‘market demand’; others have noted that communities are being built which lack the most basic social infrastructure required to ensure ‘complete communities’, at the same time as placing extra pressure on existing public services.

The Township of Bonfield is not immune from these challenges. As new residents continue to discover our “Small Community” with a “Big Heart”, the demand for housing continues to increase, and some prices have risen to reflect that increase in demand.

With this in mind, the Township of Bonfield has decided to embark on a new approach.

One which encourages the development of traditional and smaller dwelling units; at the same time as increasing densities - where it can be demonstrated the proposal is technically feasible. Please refer to the Planning and Development section of this website for further details on the forms of housing permitted in different zones throughout the Township.
