Municipal Election Information

The Municipal Clerk conducts elections for the following offices: 

  • Mayor

  • Councillors 

  • School Trustees 

  • Near North District School Board 

  • Nipissing Parry Sound Catholic District School Board 

  • Conseil scolaire catholique Franco-Nord 

  • Le conseil scolaire du district du nord-est de l’Ontario 

The office of the Municipal Clerk runs Municipal and School Board elections every four years and any by-elections as required, under the Authority of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, as amended. 

In order to be eligible to vote in the Township of Bonfield Municipal Election, on Election Day you must be a Canadian citizen, 18 years or older and reside in the Township of Bonfield or be an owner or tenant of land in the Township of Bonfield or be the spouse of such owner or tenant.

By visiting registertovoteon.ca, voters are now able to confirm, add or update their voter information on the register for the next Municipal and School Board Election. 

Our Election Accessibility Plan reaffirms our commitment to ensuring full and equal access to electoral services for persons with disabilities by identifying and eliminating barriers so that elections are accessible to all voters and candidates. 

As the election approaches, we will continue to update this plan as we identify new barriers and areas for improvement.

The Offices for which persons may be nominated for are:

Mayor: One (1) position to be elected
Councillors: Four (4) positions to be elected
To run for the position of Mayor or Council you must be:

  • A Canadian Citizen
  • At least 18 years of age
  • A resident of the Township of Bonfield or the owner or tenant of property in the Township of Bonfield (or the spouse of an owner or tenant)
  • Eligible to vote in the Township of Bonfield
  • Not disqualified to hold office by any legislation

Nominations will be accepted May 1 to August 21, 2026.

No Person who proposes to be a candidate may solicit or accept contributions for elections purposes or incur campaign expenses until a nomination paper has been filed.

The Term of Office Begins November 15, 2026. Nomination Forms and Candidate Guides will be available from the Township Office beginning May 1, 2026.

Joint Municipal Election Compliance Audit Committee

The Councils of the Municipalities of Callander, East Ferris and Powassan and the Townships of Bonfield, Chisholm and Nipissing invite applications from citizens who wish to be considered for appointment to a Municipal Elections Compliance Audit Committee to represent all of the above-named municipalities. There will be modest compensation for meeting attendance. The term of office will expire on November 14, 2030.
